Her Perspective on the Evening
What were you hoping for?
A pub quiz partner that's witty, stylish and ideally from Ireland. It’s where my family is from originally and my mother's wish is that I return there someday.
Initial thoughts?
“I knew it was going to be you!” I’d clocked him on my way to the restaurant. Stylish, not Irish. Cool ink.
Conversation topics?
Having quickly established that we both hail from the same part of the city, we ascertained that we’d had the same driving instructor as young adults. We also talked about recent plays, body art stories, trainspotting and how I’ve been reading this column religiously since I was seven.
Biggest hiccup?
The waitstaff cheering excitedly when we told them we had plans after, then me trying a quick exit through some curtains that were sewn together.
Good table manners?
He did a very good job with the communal dishes.
Best thing about Harry?
His openness, and skill to inquire.
Would you introduce Harry to your friends?
They were pestering me for a voice-note lowdown before the date had even finished – I doubt he’d be ready for all the excitement.
Describe Harry in three words
Engaged observer (you had to be there).
What do you think Harry made of you?
He very kindly absorbed my chatter and even made it feel like a real conversation, so I trust it wasn't overwhelming.
Did you go on somewhere?
To a Scottish pub.
And … did you kiss?
That's for him to say.
Any regrets?
I’d have made the final ride and avoiding a cab home.
Marks out of 10?
8.5
Would you meet again?
Well, he has my number …
His Perspective on Niamh
Expectations?
Great chat with delicious dishes.
Initial reaction?
Awesome animal print, beaming grin, nice hair.
Discussion points?
Her Paris adventures. Challenges of performing Irish plays in China. Shared interest for Northern European nations.
Most awkward moment?
Showing up together and it felt of an “are you, aren’t you?” vibe while we were waiting for our table.
Good table manners?
Flawless, she shared generously.
Her best trait?
She’s got a strong creative streak, that I respect.
Would you introduce Niamh to your friends?
Absolutely.
Three descriptors
Compassionate, gifted, daring.
What do you think Niamh made of you?
Probably that I seemed familiar. We share a background, and grew up in the same part of London.
Did you go on somewhere?
To a pub near the train which I particularly like.
The moment?
Yes! Absolutely.
If you could change one thing
More table space for all our orders we ordered.
Marks out of 10?
Eight. Niamh was excellent company.
Another meeting?
We swapped contacts, but I think it would be as friends.
