In “It’s a Deal”, a look back reveals that popular personality Alastor the Radio Demon was a mass murderer in his mortal days. Being aware he was headed to the underworld, he established communication with the afterlife in advance to obtain a powerful role in Hell. Rosie, who leads the cannibal faction in Hell, promised Alastor he would become “the most powerful Sinner in Hell” in exchange for his eternal spirit.

This raises the question: In what way is this character powerful enough to raise Alastor over all other Demonic Sinners?

“The Rosie and Alastor deal is the initial building block in a larger narrative that encompasses a great deal, moving into the third season,” the showrunner states. “Obviously that is an excellent question: How is she so strong? The solution might be many things, but the revelation is in season 3. I am thrilled for fans to see it.”

It is uncertain the duration the audience will have to wait for Hazbin Hotel’s next season. The studios have green-lit seasons 3 and 4, but the showrunner often notes that animation is a slow, lengthy process, and subsequent seasons are undated. Still, she states holding off on specific information is an important part of maintaining the second season's attention in the right places.

“The challenge of any kind of deal with infernal beings, or narratives that have mysteries, is providing people sufficient clues to be like, Something's up here, and then unveiling that as we go, and allowing that be gratifying,” she comments. “So I am quite eager.”

Mysteries Resolved in Season 3

The showrunner assures that the upcoming season will tackle the queries followers have been posing, such as why the cannibal leader commanded Alastor to disappear for a seven-year period, which diminished his power in the infernal realm.

“The whole seven years, and the deals these individuals are doing, and everything — it contributes to a larger story,” she says.

Meanwhile, the Rosie/Alastor backstory episode offers a further look into how the core cast of Demonic Sinners appeared as as humans, the second after seeing another character's historical mortal appearance in episode 2. The creator explains that significant consideration went into the visual creation of these forms.

“The human versions of the characters hold so much weight,” she notes. “They vary from appearing quite distinct from their infernal version to seeming almost identical. With the first character, the initial design we see, there was some internal discussion internally between choosing something that represents the personality, versus selecting something that's very time-period accurate. We leaned toward creating something that just seemed like it was him.”

She says the primary controversy over the mortal look of Pentious was his long hair: “We were like, ‘Nobody typically had long hair of that style in Victorian-era London.’ But simultaneously, we think the outline is so important, and we also just thought he appeared attractive. We were like, ‘This just feels right.’ We sort of provided the rationale that he's a hermit, so he just allowed his hair to lengthen. So there's always a way. As we design the human versions of these characters […] it is a very enjoyable process to investigate and figure out. I am looking forward for people to view additional of the appearances of the human versions.”
