Instructor Fatally Shot and Two Dozen Pupils Seized in Armed Clash at Nigerian School
Gun-wielding individuals have killed a teacher and abducted at least 25 students in an assault against a educational institution for young women in Nigeria's northwestern region, police reports indicate.
The gang of attackers breached the public educational institution for female students in Maga, Kebbi State at approximately 04:00 local time on Monday, police confirmed.
The assailants "engaged police personnel on duty in a firefight" before climbing over the boundary wall and seizing the students from their dormitory, according to a statement.
A school employee was killed while trying to protect the students. Another staff member suffered bullet injuries and is now undergoing medical care.
Observers recounted a large group of attackers, known locally as bandits, who appeared discharging weapons intermittently to create fear.
Local residents told reporters that the attackers afterwards forced a contingent of young women into adjacent wilderness.
The law enforcement confirmed they had positioned "additional police tactical units, together with army members and community security teams" to the area.
